About Lewis Custom Homes, Inc.

Lewis Custom Homes was started by Joseph C. Lewis in 1961 as "Joseph C. Lewis Building Contractors." Joseph Lewis built small ranches, raised ranches, split levels and small Colonials as the market for new home construction demanded.

As Joseph C. Lewis Building Contractors grew, Joseph's sons, the late Joseph II, Michael, Robert Luke, Mark, and Dan, worked in the business full-time during the summers while in high school and college. After graduating college the sons worked full-time for the business.

Joseph C. Lewis passed away in March of 1989 and the five Lewis brothers took over the company. In addition to the company being changed to an S-Chapter Corporation named Lewis Custom Homes, Inc. the Lewis brothers also looked to diversify their work.

In 1994, the Lewis brothers formed Lewis Brothers Construction LLC to diversify into small one- and two-story commercial buildings through negotiated contracts with the local business and nonprofit companies.

In 1996, the Lewis brothers built their first small apartment community with 24 units called Lewiston Townhomes in New Hartford, New York under the legal entity Lewis Brothers, LLC.

Their next business venture was in 1997 when they built another small apartment community in Clinton, New York called Lewiston at White Street, LLC (18 units), which is both its marketing name and legal entity. Two new phases of apartment units were added in 2002 and 2003, for a total of 66 units at this site.

In 1999, the Lewis brothers bought a small apartment complex in the Village of Clinton, New York (Lewiston at Meadow Lane) and totally renovated the complex and added six new apartments through new construction. In total, there are 24 units at Meadow Lane.

There is a separate management division headed by Michael J. Lewis, an employee of Lewis Custom Homes, Inc. For information regarding the Lewiston communities, please call 315-853-8519.

Presently the Lewis's are working on a 180 unit, luxury apartment community in Clinton, New York called Lewiston at Pheasant Run. Presently Phase I is leased out and Phase II (36 units) was completed in the summer of 2009. This high-end apartment community will be built in five phases. One demographic that the Lewis's are renting to is middle-aged and senior empty nesters that are downsizing their homes.

The Lewis's have recently purchased another apartment community in Lyons, New York under Lewis Brothers, LLC. Currently they are in the preliminary stages of developing another 54-units on-site.

The Lewis's have worked with many people over the last 10 years who were searching to purchase multi-family townhouse units with a Homeowner's Association. There is a need for multi-family dwelling units for seniors, empty nesters and first time home buyers who are looking for a different style of living. Therefore, the Lewis's see this is as an opportunity to develop this product of housing in the Mohawk Valley.

Community service is also a landmark of the Lewis commitment to the Mohawk Valley. In 1997 the Lewis's partnered with then St. Luke's-Memorial Hospital Center (now known as Faxton-St. Luke's Hospital), a designated Children's Miracle Network hospital, to build the first Miracle Home. This local fund raising project is a unique event that builds a home through community donations and has been coordinated by the Lewis's for the past 10 years. It is also the only house and fund-raiser of this kind in New York State. To date, this project has netted over $2.5 million to benefit the local Children's Miracle Network. Beginning in 2007, a new fund raising theme was adopted, the Miracle Home Makeover, in which participants have a change to win a makeover of their existing home or $100,000 in cash.

The Lewis brothers also presently (and in the past) sit on multiple boards of various organizations in the Mohawk Valley including the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, Mohawk Valley home Builders Association, Faxton-St. Luke's Hospital Foundation, the National Bank of Vernon, Utica Industrial Development Agency, and Boys & Girls Club of Central New York, Town of Kirkland; Councilman and Clinton School District School Board member.

It is because of their strong foundation, dedication, commitment and respect in the community, that they are a successful and flourishing company.
